          Religious Studies

Religious Studies plays a central role in the spiritual, moral, cultural, social and mental development of each student at SSSO. It provides a structured and rigorous framework for students to explore the philosophical and ethical questions faced by all humanity. Questions about concepts such as: truth; God; reality; death; freedom; justice; goodness; rights; identity; love; friendship; rules; responsibility, existence; possibility; beauty; meaning; and human nature.

          Religious Studies aims to:

          • Encourage students to question and respond to questions on meaning, purpose and values.
          • Equip students with the skills to challenge stereotypes and develop informed points of views.
          • Help students to enrich and explore their own beliefs, considering their basis and their implications.
          • Help students to explore and learn from the beliefs of others, building understanding of those things which influence and motivate people today both worldwide and in Britain.
          • Make students aware of current issues facing humanity today, supporting them in exploring their impact on their own lives and the lives of others.
          • Develop students’ creative and critical thinking skills, as well as their ability to reason.
